A flower-child of the 70’s in Santa Cruz, Reggae and Folk albums were the house-hold routine, and Bob Marley & the Wailers was #1.  In the 80’s and 90’s, Dasha lived on vinyls, making mixtapes and singing along to her favorite bands, forging a deeply eclectic taste ranging from Rock Underground and New Wave to Ska and Hip-Hop.
A rose by any other name…Launching her career in France in ’94 by founding the trans-cultural World Electronica band Ekova with songs from her busking days in Paris, she signed with Sony Classic France and released « Heaven’s Dust » in 1997. Her voice described as « primal » and « hypnotic », she was featured by top French Electronica artist Jean Michel Jarre, and opened for French Pop stars -M- and Natacha Atlas, quickly becoming a must-see act worldwide. She hit #11 Billboard World Charts in 2001 with her second album « Space Lullabies and Other Fantasmagore » and was the official French opening act for The Cure in 2003. From there she began experimenting with Trip Hop on her solo album « Dierdre, One » until ultimately founding the Jazz-Hip Hop collective « Urbanswing Soundsystem » with DJ Dee Nasty.
From her first DIY recordings on 4-track tape to her work today, Dierdre Dubois defies all expectations, never hesitating to mix things up and cross barriers.
